January 5, 1945 – First rescue in a Bell Helicopter

January 5, 1945 – 72 years ago Bell Helicopter Chief Pilot Floyd Carlson performed the first Mercy Flight mission in a Bell Helicopter. Chief Test Pilot Jack Woolams bailed out of a P-59A Airacomet and rescuers could not reach him by road due to a snow storm. Carlson flew a doctor out to the stranded pilot in poor weather conditions saving his life.
